Harghita firefighters on duty during the Easter and May 1st mini-holiday

Ensuring the security climate for citizens and the provision of quality services to support requests received from those in difficulty remain the priority objectives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations “Oltul” of Harghita county in the next period as well.

Considering the fact that the Holy Orthodox Easter holidays are approaching, our concern is mainly oriented towards the prevention of fires by removing deficiencies in the line of fire protection, at churches or other categories of buildings frequented during this period, ensuring the optimal response time, by keeping the intervention technique in operative condition, as well as arranging the necessary measures to supplement, if necessary, the number of SMURD firefighters and paramedics for the efficient management of the missions in the operative dynamics.

During this period, many citizens will choose to spend their free time by going out to green grass, in recreational areas or near the forest, we remind you of the need to comply with fire protection rules. In order to avoid the occurrence of negative events, the fire must be made only in specially arranged places, in conditions and at distances that do not allow its propagation to buildings, agricultural crops, forests or neighborhoods. Open fires should not be used less than 100 m from the forest or in windy conditions, as any weak gust can change the direction of the flames. Before leaving, the embers must be extinguished with water and the ashes covered with earth.

The prevention inspectors intensified, during this period, preventive control and information actions at places of worship, tourist units in the area of competence, as well as at objectives in tourist areas that carry out economic activities, in order to identify and remove potential causes of fire and of other specific irregularities. During the verification actions, the specialist staff paid attention to the organization of the fire protection activity, the provision of fire extinguishers, keeping the escape routes free, the safe operation of the electrical installations, as well as ensuring the access of emergency vehicles to the church buildings and external hydrants. It is important to mention that such actions will continue in the next period, so that the safety of the beneficiaries is optimally covered. At the same time, in order to prevent unwanted situations, during the preventive actions, trainings were held with the priests and clerical staff on the methods of coordinating the evacuation of the parishioners, but also on the use of fire extinguishers arranged inside the worship units.

Operationally, during the mini-vacation occasioned by the celebration of the International Labor Day and the Orthodox Easter, more than 100 military firefighters from Harghita will be on duty every day to respond to requests from citizens, ensuring a prompt response in case of emergency situations. At the same time, the response to possible medical emergencies will be managed by means of SMURD crews, permanently available, who will provide medical first aid and the transport of people in difficulty to hospital units.

In order to avoid incidents during Easter services, we recommend both priests, but especially parishioners, to follow some simple, but very important rules:

❗ showing prudence in the use of lit candles and candles during religious services, to prevent clothing or hair from igniting;

❗ avoiding driving with lit candles in vehicles;

❗ the placement of lit candles and candles in the home is done in supports that cannot catch fire, away from curtains, wood or household appliances;

❗ keeping the escape routes from the church free and prohibiting access inside, if the capacity of the building has been exceeded;

❗ car parking in the vicinity of places of worship should be carried out without blocking the access of fire trucks.

Harghita firefighters wish you HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

In the context of the May 1 mini-holiday and the Easter holidays, the anti-drug specialists from Harghita county have carried out, these days, at the local level, a series of information and prevention activities against drug use.

The activities focused, in particular, on information sessions in the field of drug prevention, attended by the staff employed in accommodation units, restaurants, terraces and bars.

Also prior to this mini-vacation, a series of meetings took place with the students from the 11th and 12th grades, to remind them that the most beautiful moments are the ones you remember the next day.

In the next period, at the national level, the activities will be intensified, in an integrated system, together with the other structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for the prevention of drug consumption and the provision of specialized assistance.

We recommend everyone to pay attention to what is happening around them, especially if they participate in events with a large audience, not to consume alcohol in excess or psychoactive substances, to hydrate constantly, with water, to be able to prevent any unwanted incident.

Likewise, if you notice people around you who need help, do not hesitate to ask for support from the specialists in the field.

If a person is taking medication, either prescription or non-prescription, they should read the leaflet very carefully to ensure that it does not affect their ability to react in combination with other soft drinks or alcohol and also their ability to drive a vehicle, if he has a driver’s license.

At the same time, we advise adults not to drive cars if they are under the influence of alcoholic beverages or drugs. These substances affect the visual function and perception, which can generate aggressive driving behavior, with dangerous overtaking, speeding, disobeying some signs or road markings.

The National Anti-Drug Agency reminds that it offers free and confidential assessment services,

counseling and specialized assistance, in each county, for drug use and addiction.

On behalf of the CPECA Harghita colleagues, I wish you Happy Holidays with your loved ones!
