More factories will appear in Romania, announced the Minister of the Environment Mircea Fechet. In a press statement from Târgu Mureş, he explained what kind of factories we are talking about.
Recycling factories appear in Romania
There is a possibility for Romania to develop more recycling plants.
The Minister of the Environment mentioned that these projects could benefit from funding worth millions of euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Mircea Fechet, the Minister of the Environment, Waters and Forests, confirmed that projects for recycling factories will soon be launched. Project financing can reach up to 8 million euros.
The PNRR financing program is worth 220 million euros.
He indicated that probably in the coming weeks the first projects and funding applications will be submitted to the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) for this program, called “recycling factories”.
“We have established a financing program from PNRR worth 220 million euros, I believe that the call for projects will be opened very soon. The financing guide went through the transparency process, it was sent to the Official Gazette.
Probably in the coming weeks we will already have the first projects, the first funding applications submitted to the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) for this program, which we call ‘recycling factories’ and where we finance, if I quote correctly from memory, a maximum amount of 8 million euros for each such investment”, declared Minister Mircea Fechet.
What does the funding guide focus on?
He specified that the funding guide focuses on waste treatment and recycling processes. Manufacturers of biodegradable or compostable packaging are excluded.
The Minister of the Environment emphasized that it is important to have sufficient capacity throughout the production chain and throughout the life chain of such material.
Beneficiaries who want to invest in recycling plants can also apply under the program discussed earlier.
Referring to the biodegradable fraction, he mentioned that there are many discussions at European level. Romanian producers are also involved. The goal is to protect Romanian industry.
The minister added that it is important to also represent the interests of the Romanian industry in the discussions regarding the packaging directive.
Biodegradable waste, half of the total amount of waste
The minister emphasized that biodegradable waste would constitute approximately half of the total amount of waste generated in Romania, estimated at 3 million tons.
He also says that we have a real problem with the way we manage the 3 million biodegradable waste.
“In other words, out of the 6 million tons, approximately 3 million tons are such waste.
For this reason, before I worry about the shampoo bottle or other things (…), we have a real problem with how we manage the 3 million (tons no) of biodegradable waste, in the sense that, on the one hand, we do not we manage to ensure a separate collection of them as it should be, in order to be able to turn them into compost, something that happens in many member states.
On the other hand, we struggle in many counties with conventional sorting facilities for the dry fraction”, said Mircea Fechet.
