The president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Corina Corbu, adopted an order capping the amounts paid to the institution’s employees for the production of eyeglasses, according to the document consulted by G4Media. The amounts settled will be a maximum of 2,500 lei for lenses, a maximum of 500 lei for frames, plus the cost of labor and the cost of the medical examination.

The order cites EU law and a ruling by the EU Court of Justice that employers are required to cover these costs for employees who work with monitors.

What the order provides:

Art. 1 – The operational procedure regarding the settlement of the counter value of the special correction devices necessary to protect the eyes and vision of the employees of the High Court of Cassation and Justice is approved, provided for in the annex that is an integral part of this order.

Art. 2 – (1) The staff of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, whose activity involves the use of equipment with a monitor, benefits, upon the recommendation of the ophthalmologist and based on the prescription issued by him, of the devices necessary for visual correction, under the conditions of this order and of the operational procedure provided for in art. 1.
(2) The settlement in the case of changing the lenses required for visual correction is made when the initial diagnosis is changed.
(3) If the diagnosis remains unchanged, the settlement of the change of eyeglasses is made once every 2 years, and of the contact lenses expressly recommended by the ophthalmologist through the prescription issued, integrally or successively, for the interval of 2 years, with the inclusion in the maximum amount provided for in art. 3 letter a).
Art. 3 – (1) The maximum amount is borne from the budget of the High Court of Cassation and
Justice for the devices needed for visual correction includes the value added tax and is calculated as follows:
a) maximum ceiling of 2500 lei, for the lenses related to the devices required for visual correction;
b) maximum ceiling of 500 lei, for eyeglass frames;
c) labor cost;
d) the cost of the medical examination, as the case may be.
