Handball players from Focșani they lost the game they played on Sunday, March 31, in the Apollo Hall in Capital, in the company of CSM Bucharest, in the 21st stage of the National League championship. The home side’s win was expected given their much better run in the current competition and the away team’s woes. Surprising was the manner in which the Focsanes accumulated a passive of 8 goals in 12 minutes and 29 seconds, in which they did not score a single time! After 9-8 in the 17th minute and 29 seconds, they entered a total deadlock – fueled by Asanin’s sensational interventions – and from which they did not come out until after the break! The second half started for the visitors from 8-17 and continued with an impressive run of 15 goals scored and only 7 conceded, with which the score reached 24-23. It was the 56th minute and it looked like enough time for the visitors to pull off an incredible turnaround. But the effort made in the second half left the Focsaneni without the physical resources with which to force the victory. Two technical errors in such a background caused them to lose the ball and the hosts finished with goals, the score reached 26-23 in the 58th minute and the game was played. Only then, after it seemed before the break that it would be a river score for CSM Bucharest. Again, the evolution of youth internationals Alexandru Golea and David Pavlov was very promising, bringing to the field the extra energy that CSM Focșani 2007 needed to get back – and count – in the game.
The statement after the match for the Facebook page of CSM Focșani 2007, of the coach Dalibor Cutura: “Tonight we basically played two different games in one. In the first half, from the 17th minute, we went into a black hole without explanation, gave them the ball without any concentration and missed clear one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper. In the second half, however, we showed character and played a very good 30 minutes, but it wasn’t enough, considering we had a nine-goal gap to make up. However, we only came within a goal of the hosts in the 56th minute, but it was very tiring and difficult to play every attack, practically perfect, to succeed and overcome the opponent”.
On Wednesday, April 10, CSM Focșani 2007 will meet in the Sala Polivalentă on Minaur Baia Mare.
