Daylight saving time 2024. The clock is turned forward in Romania. The time is changing

Daylight saving time 2024. The moment of time change is knocking at the door. When should Romanians turn their clocks forward? Doctor Vlad Ciurea explains what effects this moment will have on our brain.

Daylight saving time 2024. The clock will go forward one hour

Summer time 2024. On Saturday, March 30, Romania will switch to summer time. This will be the time when 03:00 will become 04:00. This time adjustment occurs twice every year in our country with the aim of maximizing the natural light available to people during the day.

Therefore, tonight we will sleep an hour less. However, on Sunday, sunset will happen an hour later, giving us an extra hour of natural light to enjoy.

According to experts, it takes about a week for people to adjust to daylight saving time on average. The reason? We will have to wake up and start our days an hour earlier than usual.

During Saturday night, 03:00 will become 04:00. Doctor neurosurgeon Vlad Ciurea analyzed the consequences of this change on our brain. According to his analysis, time adjustments bring with them certain effects, which, according to the doctor, are generally beneficial for the human body.

“We have a biological clock in our brain. It’s not up to us. Maybe it came from above. It has a certain rhythm which is called circadian rhythm. If the sun’s rays come an hour earlier in Romania, we also have to adapt.

Adaptation is very simple, we wake up an hour earlier. We can function well, in perfect activity, an hour earlier. We have to use the beam of light to start.

If God gave us this light an hour earlier, we must use it fully to be able to work”, explained doctor Alexandru Vlad Ciurea for Antena 3 CNN.

The benefits of switching to summer time

More than 70 countries around the world adopt daylight saving time. However, it is not known exactly how much energy is saved globally each year as a result of this time change.

According to a study led by Steve P. Calandrillo of the University of Washington and Dustin E. Buehler of the University of Arkansas, adopting daylight saving time could help reduce traffic accidents.

This choice is justified by the fact that it is more advisable to benefit from more light during the evening, when most serious accidents occur, especially when people return home after a long day at the office (in the United States, the number of accidents death rate is twice as high during the evening than in the morning).

In addition, the adoption of daylight saving time could lead to a decrease in the crime rate, since more than half of the crimes occur during the hours of darkness, i.e. in the late afternoon or evening.

According to other research, the adoption of daylight saving time could stimulate certain economic sectors.

The tourism industry, for example, claims that an extra hour of daylight encourages people to spend more time outdoors, which can lead to increased spending on various recreational activities.

Energy experts also argue that daylight savings time can reduce energy consumption by about 31 kilowatts per hour per resident.

Experts also highlight the benefits of sunlight supplementation, which supports general well-being and promotes health. It is well known that exposure to the sun stimulates the production of vitamin D and can reduce the frequency of so-called “seasonal affective disorders”.
