The new terminal of the Oradea International Airport should be inaugurated at the end of April, according to an announcement made by Ilie Bolojan, the president of the Bihor County Council.

“The airport terminal will be completed in early April, and on April 27, when the first charter flight is, passengers will depart from the new terminal,” Bolojan said at a press conference on Wednesday.

But there is still no firm date for when regular international flights will begin. The county councilors voted in the ordinary meeting on Wednesday the contract with the LOT company, for regular flights Oradea – Warsaw.

“We are in an advanced stage of negotiations and arrangements with our partners in Romania. We will inform the mass media about the details of our cooperation as soon as this is possible”, the LOT company sent us, through the Press Office, at the request of Jurnal Bihorean.

According to Bolojan, the airline should launch the new flight, with a frequency of four times a week, by July at the latest. In the ordinary meeting, the president of the CJ explained that the institution will bear part of the operating costs, given that the races will not be profitable.

“The more passengers there are, the smaller our contribution will be,” said Ilie Bolojan.

He specified that these flights are “dedicated to the business environment, to be able to arrive in Oradea anywhere in the world and to be able to leave Oradea anywhere”.

Bolojan said that the flight schedule was designed in such a way that after landing at Warsaw airport, travelers would have dozens of flights to destinations around the world in the next 2-3 hours.

“They are not point-to-point flights, but Oradea – Warsaw and beyond, so that we have connectivity to all the capitals of the European Union and airports in the United States, Canada, China and so on”, declared the president CJ Bihor.

At the same time, nothing is heard about the HiSky races announced for this spring. In December 2023, Oradea City Hall announced that Air Oradea completed the evaluation stage of the bid submitted in the procedure for selecting a partner for operating flights from Oradea airport and that HiSkyEurope SRL obtained the maximum score based on the selection criteria, being the only company that submitted a bid.
