Students Mara Vașlaban and Ștefania Puflene, 11th grade at Ovidius Theoretical High School, coordinated by Prof. Carmen Bucovală, won the national phase of the European Climate Detectives competition. The presented project, related to the method of using microalgae cultures to capture greenhouse gases, was appreciated by the national jury as being creative, well documented and connected with the general theme of the competition, that of investigating the causes and consequences of climate change.

In the next stage, the Ovidius Theoretical High School team is invited to take part in the celebration event of this campaign, which will take place at the Italian headquarters of the European Space Agency, between 20-22.05.2024. During this event, participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts in the field of satellite studies, but also with students from ESA affiliated countries, winners of national selections.

ESA Education runs the annual Climate Detectives competition, which gives students the opportunity to understand how satellites can observe and track changes in Earth’s climate and environment.
