MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said that he would certify as urgent amendments to the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL).

During an ambush interview in Pasay City, Marcos said calls to amend the RTL have come up. The President pointed to high rice prices due to competing traders.

“Kung magagor ng amendments to the NFA (National Food Administration) charter at Rice Tarrification Law, magagaon natin, mako-kontrol natin, may influence tayo sa presyuhan sa palay ng palay at ng palay ng bigas,” said Marcos.

(If there are amendments to the NFA charter and the Rice Tarrification Law, we could find a way to control it, we have influence over the price and trade of rice.)

Pushed further if he plans to certify the measure as urgent Congress, Marcos said “Yes, I think it justifies the urgent certification.”
