More than 800 lighting fixtures in Oradea were replaced with LED fixtures, through a project of about 7 million lei financed by the Environmental Fund Agency.

More than 2,000 LED fixtures are installed

The works to modernize the public lighting in the municipality started two weeks ago.

“On March 12, the replacement of old sodium lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED fixtures began on several important streets in the city. Up to this moment, a number of 832 110 W LED fixtures have been installed, out of a total of 2,038 planned to be installed in this first stage”, Oradea City Hall announced on Wednesday.

The modernization of public lighting began with the access roads to the city, as well as with Dacia and Decebal boulevards.

Among others, LED fixtures were installed on Calea Borșului up to the roundabout from the intersection of Dacia Boulevard with Transilvaniei Street (455 pieces), Calea Aradului from the roundabout with the ring road to the Airport (156 pieces) and on Nufărului Boulevard starting from the turn from the exit of the city towards Sânmartin (79 pieces).

Also, part of the sodium lighting fixtures on Calea Clujului (21 pieces), Mareșal Averescu Boulevard (19 pieces) but also on Dacia Boulevard, on the sections bounded by the intersections with Transilvaniei streets and Creangă Street (57 pieces) and the streets of the Republic Museum (14 pieces), respectively on Decebal Boulevard (26 pieces).

“Visibility is much better”

The purpose of the investment is to reduce electricity consumption and improve visibility on Oradea roads.

“By replacing sodium lamps with LED bodies, energy consumption will be much lower, and visibility in traffic much better. Already, where LED lights are used (Bulevardul Nufărul – Cantemir, Calea Aradului, etc.), visibility is much better for road users,” the statement of the municipality of Oradea states.

The public lighting modernization works, awarded last fall to the Flash Lighting Services company, also aim, in addition to the installation of 2,038 LED lighting fixtures, and the replacement of 15 ignition points with modernization and energy analysis centers.

At the moment, 24,000 lighting points are in operation in Oradea. Of these, 20,000 pieces are still sodium lamps and 4,000 pieces have been replaced with LED fixtures.

The municipality’s plans are to, in the next period, replace 9,169 more sodium lamps with LED fixtures, of which 7,125 pieces in the second stage of modernization of Oradea’s public lighting, and 2,044 in a third stage.
