More than 80 of the 186 employees of the alumina plant Alum SA in Tulcea will lose their jobs, starting from Monday, announced the sub-prefect of Tulcea county, Timur Memet.

The Director of the County Agency for Employment (AJOFM), Cristian Denuşi, stated in his turn that this is the fourth wave of redundancies announced by the management of the economic unit starting from August 2022 and that pre-dismissal services will begin on April 9.

“On April 9, we will present ourselves at the Alum headquarters. For the 83 people, we will see at the end how many will come to us, if they do not find a job elsewhere. We will start the pre-dismissal measures, we will go to them, we will discuss, we will offer them vacant jobs, so as not to waste time.

Basically, if they don’t find a job right away, they will come to our records and we will try to retrain them”, said the director of AJOFM, Cristian Denuşi, according to Agerpres.

He added that he had already spoken with the representatives of the Vard Tulcea SA shipyard, the largest private employer in the county, which showed interest in taking over the workforce laid off from Alum SA.

The alumina plant in the municipality of Tulcea, part of the Vimetco group owned by the Russian billionaire Vitali Matsitski, had around 780 employees at the beginning of 2022.
