Timișoara will have a full program on Thursday, May 9, on the occasion of Europe Day. Casa de Cultură Timișoara prepared a concert for lovers of all musical genres, the star of the evening being the famous DJ Sonique. there is also a cross-country race.

On Thursday, May 9, in Victoriei Square in Timișoara, starting at 18:00, there will be an extraordinary show whose guests are the “Contrast” Choir, the “Lira” symphony orchestra and the “Timișul” Ensemble orchestra, with soloists Nico and Cezar Ouatu, followed by the special guest of the evening, none other than the famous artist DJ Sonique, an iconic name in the music industry, who brings to our city his positive energy and his undeniable talent.

The event is part of a series of events organized across Europe on the occasion of Europe Day, marking the values ​​and cultural diversity that define our continent. Thus, we will celebrate, through music, unity in diversity and bring together communities from different corners of the world, in an atmosphere of harmony and joy.,

Sonia Clarke, known by her stage name Sonique, is a British songwriter and DJ, best known for her significant contribution to the development of the dance genre. Born on June 21, 1968 in Crouch End, London, Sonique came to the limelight in the late 80s as a member of the dance group S’Express. Although the collaboration with S’Express resulted in a studio album, major success came with his solo career, launched in the early 2000s.

With a successful career spanning several decades, she has captured the hearts of listeners around the world with her powerful voice and hits that have become anthems for an entire generation. His iconic song “It Feels So Good” stayed at the top of the music charts and defined the sound of the 90s, becoming one of the most well-known and loved songs of the time. Since then, Sonique has continued to captivate audiences with tracks like ‘Sky’, ‘Alive’ and ‘Can’t Make Up My Mind’, proving her versatility and undeniable talent in the music industry. With a charismatic stage presence and contagious energy, DJ Sonique promises to offer the Timișoara audience an exceptional musical experience. His concert will be an exciting journey through the sounds of dance, pop and house, providing an incendiary and lively atmosphere in Victoriei Square.

The DJ Sonique concert will be preceded by a recital by the Contrast Chorale and an extraordinary concert by the “Lira” orchestra and the “Timișul” Ensemble orchestra, in a wonderful dialogue, like an unforgettable journey through European music.

Winner of numerous awards, obtained at national and international music festivals: two awards at the “Mamaia” Festival, the trophy of the “Voice of Asia” International Festival in Kazakhstan, 2nd place at the “Golden Stag” International Festival. Representing Romania in the Eurovision 2008 final, Nico has been present for 20 years in the national music industry, with five studio albums, more than 30 singles and collaborations with famous artists, such as BUG Mafia, Ștefan Bănică Jr., Connect-R, Vlad Mirita, Theo Rose, Pepe or Luminita Anghel.

Caesar Ouatu

A graduate of the prestigious “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in the singing class of teacher Margaret Hayward, Cezar Ouatu immediately established himself as one of the best countertenors of his generation. He is the winner of the Grand Prize at the Competizione dell’Opera (Dresda) and the Prize for the best countertenor at the “Francisco Viñas” competition in Barcelona. He debuted in the main role in the opera “Il Crociato in Egitto”, at the Grand Teatro La Fenice in Venice, under the baton of conductor Emmanuel Villaume. Since then, he has performed over 50 roles on the biggest stages in Europe, alongside important orchestras. Currently a soloist of the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic in Ploiesti, Cezar Ouatu has been performing numerous concerts and recitals on this stage since he was a child, together with his father, Florian Ștefan Ouatu, flutist and flute teacher at the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg. Well-known to the general public for his original appearance at Eurovision, as a representative of Romania, in 2013, but also from the entertainment show “I know you from somewhere”, Cezar Ouatu is a pop-opera pioneer in Romania, with concerts all over the country and abroad, where he was appreciated by important names from the international music industry: Robbie Williams, Andrea Bocelli, Angela Gheorghiu, Simon Cowell and others. Music producer and founder of the “Cezar Ouatu” International Singing Festival (FICCO), which promotes young talents, the Romanian countertenor is also the founder, director and manager of the first vocal comedy troupe in Romania, “The free tenors”.

Also on the occasion of Europe Day, between May 8-10, several actions dedicated to the European idea will take place in schools.

Show imagined in the form of a funny journey, which the characters, representing different social categories – from the hipster student, to the young and demanding couple – make in European countries. A humorous journey that reveals to the audience interesting facts about the countries of the European Union, as well as excerpts from their specific music. Production of the House of Culture, whose premiere took place in May 2022.

Under the auspices of “Take a turn for Culture!” the European Cross Country is held this year as well.
