a premiere at “Gong” on World Theater Day

--

The Theater for Children and Youth “Gong” Sibiu, in partnership with the Orthodox Philanthropy Association Sibiu, marked the World Theater Day by presenting the show “Examen” in absolute premiere. The new production of the Sibiu Theater offers viewers of all ages a foray into the lives of students, to highlight the personal problems and strained relationships that can arise within the school.

Focusing on the topic of bullying, with the aim of exploring the causes that can lead to school dropout, the show coordinated by Ana Mujat and written by actors Mădălina Ivașcu and Gabriel Muncuș, brings to the public a suite of stories inspired by reality. From the family violence that spills over into the interpersonal relationships of some high school students, to problems related to drug trafficking, to details that capture how the lack of sincerity affects not only relationships with others, but also self-esteem, the new production of The Gong Theater puts the dilemmas of the young generation in an honest and cruel light. Featuring professional actors (Iulian Buzuloiu, Mădălina Ivașcu, Gabriel Muncuș, Raluca Pavel) and high school students from Sibiu (Diana Adam, Bogdan Cosman, Maria Mujat, Laura Pavăl, Casian Stancu, Nora Șerban, Dragoș Tunaru), the show “Exam” is a necessary experience, dedicated to students, high school students, parents and teachers alike.

On the occasion of the premiere on March 27, a date that also marks World Theater Day, the stage of the Gong in Sibiu was opened from March 25-29 to students from the schools of Sibiu county, to watch this new production for free. At the same time, the young viewers are invited daily to participate in a q&a session with the members of the creative team, in the company of the accompanying teachers. Through this approach, the Youth Theater in Sibiu continues its activity of promoting the performing arts within educational institutions, by bringing to the public’s attention some relevant productions for understanding the social issues of the moment.

The show “Examen” was realized within the project “Through education towards decent jobs”, in partnership with the Sibiu Orthodox Philanthropy Association, financed by the HEKS/EPER Romania Foundation, with the participation of the Open Fields Foundation – partner in the implementation of the project.

“We continue the tradition of the performances presented for the first time on World Theater Day through a social theater project, which aims to present real situations in our community, challenging the audience to question the vulnerabilities around us, on an encouraging note. I am very happy that I was able to realize this project and I thank both the partners for this opportunity, and especially the team of actors and high school students for this effervescent creative dialogue, it was a joy to watch their evolution throughout the rehearsals! We will certainly resume this series of programming for the general public soon,” said Adrian Tibu, manager of the Theater for Children and Youth in Sibiu.

Since then, every year, on the same date, the international theater community, artists and audience alike, celebrate World Theater Day. Founded in 1948 at the initiative of UNESCO and some prominent personalities in the theater field, the International Theater Institute is the most important international non-governmental organization in the field of performing arts, having official consultation and association relations with UNESCO.
