Thirty-eight years ago there was an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Moscow hid the truth about its horrific consequences for a long time.

And on February 24, 2022, the Russian occupiers occupied the industrial platform of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant – that’s how the whole world learned about a new act of nuclear terrorism committed at the behest of the Kremlin.

We invite you to read about the Chernobyl accident and how it is recovered after the occupation in our investigation.

On the night of April 25 to 26, 1986, an explosion occurred at the fourth power unit at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This led to the release of a huge amount of radioactive substances into the atmosphere and to an increase in the level of radiation.

Two days after the accident, the safety system of the Swedish nuclear power plant Forsmark reported high levels of radiation in the environment.

However, at first, the Swedes did not understand what the source was. Based on the direction of the wind, the hypothesis was suggested that dangerous particles were brought from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where an accident probably occurred.

We mention here that the Forsmark nuclear power plant is located approximately 1,100 kilometers from the one at Chernobyl.

Attempts by the Swedes to find out details about the situation at the Chernobyl station from official channels have failed. Soviet diplomacy categorically rejected all their assumptions.

Then the Swedes threatened to send a request to the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Moscow had no choice but to inform the Scandinavians about the explosion at the 4th power unit.

Therefore, when people abroad already knew about the situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the USSR authorities continued to remain silent. They did everything possible to prevent people from knowing the truth.

The newspapers wrote: “Everything is fine at Chernobyl – the radiation level does not exceed the permitted standards.”

However, already on April 27, the city of Pripyat, located 3 kilometers from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, was completely evacuated.
