From March 31, Romania will start issuing Schengen visas for Russian citizens.

The application can be submitted to all the country’s consulates on the territory of Russia, according to an announcement by the Romanian Embassy in Moscow.

“Romania will issue single (Schengen) visas starting from March 31, 2024. Single visas issued after this date will allow entry into the Schengen area for a period of up to 90 days in any 180-day period,” the diplomatic mission stated.

She explained that “all the consular offices on the territory of the Russian Federation”, namely those in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don, will work for the submission of Schengen visa applications.

Tourists will be able to use the visas issued until March 31, 2024, throughout their validity period, only to enter Romania, as well as based on the provisions set forth in EU decision no. 565/2014.

“For example, a foreign citizen who has a double or multiple entry visa, issued by Romania until March 31, 2024, will be able to travel on the basis of the Romanian visa to Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus,” the embassy informed.

Thus, if holders of short-term visas, issued by Romania before March 31, intend to enter one of the countries of the Schengen area, they must apply for a visa to the country of final destination.

These clarifications from the Romanian Embassy in Moscow were granted following questions asked by the TASS agency, notes Rador Radio Romania, according to stiripesource.ro.

The Bulgarian Embassy also said it will start issuing Schengen visas to Russian citizens after April 1, 2024.
