The Press Office of ISU Harghita stated that the unexploded ammunition was found following excavations.

“The pyrotechnic crew of ISU Harghita went to the spot to clean up the area. On this occasion, they found that it was about a 77 mm caliber explosive projectile and two 7.62 mm caliber cartridges, most probably from the Second World War”, informs the quoted source.

The ammunition items were picked up and transported safely, to be destroyed later.

The firefighters draw the attention of the citizens that, despite the advanced state of corrosion, the munitions left unexploded during the military conflicts can still be active and can cause tragedies, if handled improperly.

In Harghita County, ammunition elements from the two world conflagrations are frequently discovered, especially in spring and autumn, during agricultural or construction works, and lately the number of those found by authorized detectorists has increased.
