This year, the children enjoyed the activities and demonstrations prepared by the Sibiu policemen, in Habermann Square. Certainly, the most appreciated moment was the demonstration exercise of the canine teams from the “Doctor Aurel Greblea” Canine Center in Sibiu.

Just like every year, Police Day was also marked in Sibiu with workshops, demonstrations and many activities that put a big smile on the children’s faces. Curious, the little ones took each workshop in turn, took their fingerprints with the help of the police, got into the Police cars and asked numerous questions about how to detect drunk drivers or under the influence of psychoactive substances.

Police puppies, the main attraction

Hundreds of children, most between the ages of 4 and 8, stormed Habermann Square starting at 10:00 a.m., during which they enjoyed the workshops prepared by the police. The enthusiasm was even greater when they could play with the six German Shepherd puppies. “Most of all I like the puppies and that we can play with them. I also took my fingerprints and I’m waiting to see the demonstrations with the older puppies,” said Daniel, one of the children who came to the Police Day.

Agent Cristina Dulgheru from the Cynological Center in Sibiu explained why children can play with police dog puppies and why they are not allowed to play with the adults. “We preferred to bring exactly what is to the children’s delight, the little ones. They are in the “kindergarten” period, that is, the pre-training period when they have to get used to people, noise, crowds, any factor that helps them in their development. Socialization is the first thing that the puppies learn”, said the main agent Cristina Dulgheru from the Kenological Center.

Children, curious about how the Drug Test works

The workshop in which the children were shown how to use the Drug Test aroused the curiosity of the adults present in Haberman Square. After one of the police officers presented them with the device, the children raised their hands to ask questions. One of the children asked how to recognize what type of drug the driver consumed before getting behind the wheel. The policeman answered the curiosities of each individual child.

Stands with weapons used in police activity, a workshop of the Special Actions Service policemen, road education workshops, including the mobile road education laboratory, as well as a state-of-the-art mobile forensic laboratory used to carry out an effective investigation at the scene of a crime, were among other attractions.

The little ones were able to recap and put into practice the main rules regarding pedestrian traffic with the help of an intersection set up for them, and the older ones were able to check their skills for using the bicycle and the electric scooter.
