Celine Dion, weeks of treatment because of the 3 kg accessory worn on the wedding day: “I had a wound the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead”

This December marks 30 years since Celine Dion donned her wedding dress. The Canadian artist recalled some of her fondest memories for Vogue Fbackpack, on the cover of which she posed in her first photo shoot after being diagnosed with rigid person syndrome.

Celine Dion reviewed some of the iconic looks worn over the years. She spoke most and most fondly about her wedding dress and, above all, about the huge accessory she wore on her head.

On December 17, 1994, Celine Dion united her destiny with the man of her life, Rene Angelil. The wedding was extraordinary, and her look, to match. The Canadian artist did not wear a delicate crown, but a head accessory that weighed over three kilograms, made of 2,000 Swarovski crystals. In addition, the dress was also voluminous, so the bride did not feel at all comfortable on her big day. What’s more, the crown on her head left her with sores on her forehead, for which she had to be treated with antibiotics about three weeks after the ceremony.

Celine Dion, wedding at 26 and an outfit that is still talked about today

Pictures taken 30 years ago show a young, happy and sunny Celine. She was 26 and getting married to her boyfriend, who was twice her age at the time, the manager behind her successful career.

In a clip filmed for Vogue, Dion made some confessions about her wedding outfit and, especially, about the very large accessory she wore on her head. “This huge piece was not glued, it was sewn to my head. When you are happy, you feel no weight, no problem, no pain”said the 56-year-old legend. “I did a rehearsal with the dress, the huge veil and all that, but in a ballroom with beautiful wooden floors. I practiced and everything went like clockwork, but when I had to step into the cathedral, there was no no wooden floor, my face fell off and I was wondering if I would be able to get to my future husband, everything was fine all night, but when I had to to take off my tiara, I had a cut from being too pressed The next day when I woke up I looked in the mirror and I had a wound the size of an egg I looked at my husband and I said: ‘Ha, too late now, we’re married’. But it was very big and I had to take antibiotics for about three weeks.”, said the soloist. She also added that for the day that brought her so much happiness and the man of her life, she would have worn an even bigger dress and a head accessory even three times bigger, all for Rene. “He brought out the best in me, he really did”she said of his partner.

Related to her husband, Rene, who he died in 2016at 73, from throat cancer, Dion said she still feels his presence around her.

Dion and Angelil, both from Quebec, first met when she was just 13 years old. He was 39, a music manager on his second marriage, when he decided to help Celine become a star.

They started dating in 1988, three years after his divorce. But they waited another six years before tying the knot due to fears that the world would frown upon their relationship. In the meantime, they became parents of three children: René-Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy.

Angelil was honored by the Quebec government with a national funeral at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal.
