Gresia is a village in Starchiojd commune in Prahova county which currently has no inhabitants. It is located in the northeastern part of the county, in the Subcarpathia de Curbură.
In the 2002 census, it had a population of 8 inhabitants, and the 2021 census recorded 9, although at the time it was carried out, it seems that only one person was still alive, who died in 2022. The town has never had electricity or utilities of gases. There are numerous villages that have almost been abandoned. A notable example is Merdeala, from Posești commune, where Ion Săraru, aged 72, is the only resident. He, determined not to leave his birthplace, spent his life in deep solitude, without access to basic utilities such as water, gas or electricity, calmly accepting a life of deprivation.
Another example is Bozieni, a village located on a hill in Fântânele commune. Here, Teodora and Alin Catană, mother and son, continue their existence in oppressive silence, stubbornly remaining in a place that most have forgotten. They live modestly, hoping that maybe one day Bozieni will return to its former charm. In Plaiețu, another village forgotten by time and covered by water, belonging to Măneciu commune, mayor Auraș Dragomir says that its last permanent resident, Elena Ciobanu, died at the end of 2023, at the age of 83, living in isolation, poverty and helplessness.

Gresia, a paradise forgotten by the world
A place of unprecedented beauty remained unpopulated. Of the eight original inhabitants, none remain. Although the village is now deserted, with only two houses standing, there is interest from some people to buy land here, attracted by the quiet and fresh air. The purchase of the land is done by negotiating with the descendants of the original owners, starting from one leu per square meter, but a major inconvenience remains the lack of utilities, the village never having electricity, running water or gas. Even if it remained unpopulated, the natural beauty of the place remains indisputable, a common characteristic of many rural settlements in Prahova, today deserted, but keeping their name on the map, shows the Romanian Courier
