Hallucinatory statements by former minister Andrei Marga, in the context of the war in Ukraine. Marga is of the opinion that Ukraine must cede territories to both Russia and Romania, Hungary and Poland. It is an identical message to that of Vladimir Putin to justify the invasion of Ukraine.

Andrei Marga made these statements in Alba Iulia, during an event where he launched his book “The Fate of Democracy”.

“We are in an absolutely special situation and I say it with all responsibility, Ukraine is in unnatural borders. It has to cede territories to Hungary – Transcarpathia, Poland – Galicia, Romania – Bucovina and Russia – Donbass and Crimea. They are territories of other countries. We cling, that’s it, there will be conflict.

Let’s be very clear – as long as the situation is not resolved through a discussion with America, and Russia, and Germany, and Ukraine and China, and an agreement is not reached, there will be no peace in Europe. There being no peace, democracy will suffer,” said Andrei Marga, answering a question about the war in Ukraine.

We do not have the secret documents that led to the situation in Ukraine. Personally, I am for political realism. The superpowers the United States, China, Russia and the European Union should have an understanding for a new security structure in Europe and the world. As long as this security structure is not in place, and it is not yet, all sides arm themselves and come to the battlefield in Ukraine, democratization will not be possible either in Ukraine or elsewhere. And the rest is kind of confiscated and diverted from democracy,” he said.

Referring to Ukraine, Marga said: “There is still a long way to democracy there. At the moment, parties are banned there, televisions are under the control of one of them. There are very rich people who leave, leave, leave with the money from country. A country from which most of the people leave with money, with everything, cannot be either a democracy or developed. More to the point of democracy”.

“Romania has nothing to do in this war. (…) Romania has all the resources not to suffer from the energy crisis”, the former minister also declared.

Andrei Marga was Minister of Education and rector of “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca.
