On Wednesday, in Cotroceni, President Klaus Iohannis will have meetings with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, political sources claim for STIRIPESURSE.RO.

In the first part of the day, Klaus Iohannis will receive Charles Michel, after which he will receive the three prime ministers separately. Until the moment of the transmission of this news, the topic of discussion on the agenda is not known.

These meetings take place in the context in which the president announced that he will run for the post of NATO Secretary General.

Klaus Iohannis will have to convince the leaders of the Alliance that he is suitable for this. For now, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is considered the favorite, being supported by the US, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The final decision is taken after diplomatic consultations, by consensus.

President Klaus Iohannis announced in March that he will run for the post of NATO Secretary General.

“I undertake this candidacy on behalf of Romania with all responsibility, and this decision is based on Romania’s performance, the experience accumulated during the two mandates of President of Romania, the deep understanding of the challenges faced by NATO, Europe, and especially our region , and my firm commitment to NATO’s fundamental values and objectives,” Klaus Iohannis said in a press statement.
