The Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu, announces that after 33 years of searching, a dangerous fugitive was brought to the country today. This is Kumarasamy Navaneethan, a Sri Lankan national who is on the most wanted criminals list. As a result of a good collaboration between the Romanian and German police, he was caught in Germany, informs News.ro.

He was picked up by an escort a short time ago from the ANP to be taken to the Rahova Penitentiary. Gorghiu also said: “Let all fugitives remember: no one is above the law. And, in the end, they will serve the sentence in a penitentiary in the country”.

Kumarasamy Navaneethan is a Sri Lankan national who is on the most wanted criminal list. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for committing a murder in 1991, in Bucharest. He managed to flee the country and hide for many years”.

The minister shows that, as a result of a good collaboration between the Romanian and German police, he was caught in Germany.

At the beginning of January, the Romanian Police announced that a 52-year-old Sri Lankan citizen was detected in the town of Moers, Germany, following the exchange of information carried out by the Siren Bureau of the International Police Cooperation Center – IGPR with the German Siren Bureau. The man had been convicted for committing a crime of murder committed in 1991, informs Agerpres.

The IGPR states in a press release: “In fact, in December 1991, the man killed a foreign citizen, after which he tied and wrapped him in the carpet from his home, located in Bucharest, and transported him to the Crângaşi district, throwing him in Lac Morii. On October 14, 2013, the Romanian Siren Bureau introduced an alert in the Schengen Information System on the name of the man, a Sri Lankan citizen, requesting his arrest for extradition, based on a European arrest warrant issued by the Bucharest Court, for committing the crime of murder .
