“The postmen are the victims of a corrupt leadership!”

AUR MP Marius Ostaficiuc reacted to the strike launched by postmen in Romania and said that they are the victims of a corrupt leadership. The member of parliament from Iași believes that the fault lies both with the Romanian Post management, but also with those from the “Comasat Romanian Party”, as he calls those from the PSD-PNL governing coalition.

AUR MP Marius Ostaficiuc claims that the fault in the postmen’s strike belongs exclusively to the current governing coalition.

“Postmen have gone on strike, and pensioners risk not receiving their pensions. That doesn’t mean it’s their fault. Don’t protest because I can’t do well anymore! They are protesting because the vast majority of them are forced to live on the economy’s minimum wage. They cannot be accused of anything because in this whole story the postmen are victims. They are the victims of a corrupt management of the Romanian Post Office, with the help of those from the Romanian Commissar Party (PSD and PNL)”, declares AUR deputy Marius Ostaficiuc.

The member of parliament from Iași mentions that, in an election year, he does not believe that PSD and PNL can afford a postmen’s strike, which they would use as electoral agents in a very short time.

“Postmen are from a category that has not had any salary increases in recent years, while prices have been constantly rising. As for the Romanian Post, it should be a profitable company, but it is not so because of the management put in place by the Romanian Combined Party (PSD and PNL), which ticks the company without any trace of shame.

Postmen have been and will be used as electoral agents, but they refuse to do so on empty stomachs. I’m really curious to see if the representatives of the Romanian Combined Party (PSD and PNL) will allow themselves to put their pensioners in their heads and lose the help that the postmen give in the electoral campaign”, says AUR deputy Marius Ostaficiuc.

Strike at the Romanian Post Office

Postmen will decide on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, whether to call off the strike. The decision will be announced during the morning after consultation with union members. On Monday, April 1, 2024, the union leaders received a salary increase proposal from the management of the Romanian Post Office and the Ministry of Research.

The postmen request a 400 lei net increase in employee salaries and an increase in the loyalty bonus, granted in installments, to employees who have worked for the Romanian Post for more than a certain number of years.

In the night from Monday to Tuesday, the union leaders were in session. They analyzed the proposal made by the management of the Romanian Post and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, after a six-hour negotiation session.

The proposal aims at a salary increase for Romanian Post employees in two installments: on July 1, when the minimum salary increases to 3,700 gross lei (from 3,300 gross lei at present) and on September 1, when it could increase by another 420 gross lei average. Concretely, cumulatively, a Romanian Post employee would receive a net salary increase of 369 lei on average, the trade unionists announce.

Under these conditions, AUR deputy Marius Ostaficiuc believes that postmen are the victims of a corrupt leadership!”
