An Arkansas Tech University delegation led by Dr. Charles Mebi presented on green and sustainable chemistry at the spring 2024 American Chemical Society Conference March 17-21 in New Orleans, La.
Mebi, professor of chemistry and a member of the ATU faculty since 2009, gave a talk entitled “Four avenues of undergraduate green and sustainable chemistry education.”
ATU students Isabel Baker, Elizabeth Coronado-Franco and Paige Siemens gave a poster presentation entitled “Study on the recyclability of a vanadium oxidation catalyst in aqueous biphasic medium.”
Arkansas Tech is among seven institutions from the Natural State that have met new American Chemical Society guidelines for incorporating green and sustainable chemistry into their bachelor’s degree curriculum.
In addition to their poster presentation, the ATU students met with potential employers such as government agencies and laboratories, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing and analysis companies.
The ATU chemistry program prepares students for advanced study in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceuticals and for careers in the chemical industry.
