Attendees enjoying the 6th Sligo Engineering Fair held at ATU Sligo. Over 2000 attended the event in collaboration with Engineers Ireland NW and Abbott.
The Sligo Engineering Fair returned for its sixth consecutive year, as over two thousand attended the annual event at Atlantic Technological University’s (ATU) Sligo campus recently.
Organized by ATU Sligo, in collaboration with Engineers Ireland NW, and global healthcare leader Abbott, this year’s fair offered a wide range of performances, workshops, and demonstrations for all the family to enjoy.
Attendees rubbed shoulders with intergalactic celebrity robots such as Star Wars’ iconic RTD2 and a menacing Dalek from the renowned television series Doctor Who.
Head of College and Head of Faculty of Engineering & Design at ATU Sligo, Una Parsons said, “We were delighted to bring our annual educational and fun Engineering Fair to ATU Sligo. This event allowed us to open our doors to the community and welcome a diverse range of visitors to our campus, to highlight to the public the breathtaking and exciting world of engineering. We wanted to instill engineering in the minds of the younger generation, our future engineers by showing them what engineering was all about in a fun and interactive way.”
Highlights of the packed program of events included a mini “Robots War,” Lego workshops with Bricks4Kids. Engineering Discovery Zone – was an area with family-friendly activities, engineering games and more.
Additionally, attendees could participate in the Extreme Engineering Interactive Workshop, exploring the intricacies of building from small to large scale, and experience the process of developing a 2D game in the Unity game engine through the Computer Games Development segment.
This year also saw the return of Abbott’s Engineering Room, offering attendees a hands-on experience with engineering experiments and interactive stations to delve into various aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.
