The Petrom station on Virtuții Street in Bucharest, monitored by us this year, displays on March 19, 2024 a price of standard gasoline of 7.14 lei/liter, while the price of standard diesel is 7.39 lei/liter .

Therefore, the oil company today lowered the price of diesel by three pennies per liter and maintained the price of gasoline. The cheapening was also seen at the other gas station networks.

The previous price change took place three days ago, when Petrom only increased the price of gasoline by four pennies per liter, maintaining the price of diesel. A week earlier, it raised prices by four paise per litre, both for petrol and diesel. It was the first increase in price after a period of four consecutive reductions – since the beginning of this month, prices have been falling, reductions that came after a series of 12 consecutive reductions, operated since mid-January.

After the latest price changes, we notice that the price difference between the two fuels is reducing, diesel being more expensive than gasoline by only 25 money per liter.

Fuels will become more expensive once again in the middle of the year, because this year the excise duty on fuels increases in two stages, on January 1st and July 1st. The increase from July 1, caused exclusively by the increase in the excise duty (including the related VAT), will be 43 money per liter of gasoline and about 40 money per liter of diesel.

Oil prices have been rising lately, with Europe’s benchmark Brent reaching $87 a barrel.

Petrom is the leader in the retail oil products distribution market in Romania, with a network of 555 distribution stations, of which 393 are Petrom and 162 are OMV.
