Former president Traian Băsescu said that Nicuşor Dan has a good chance of winning the battle for the Capital City Hall, given that Gabriela Firea has seven percent to recover, which is a lot, as indicated by the latest Avangarde survey. About Marcel Ciolacu, the former head of state said that “he is a Maltese who spins them around, confuses them, or in Bucharest he does not go to PSD or PNL”, although he initially thought he was a good man. He added that Cristian Poepscu Piedone will not withdraw from the competition, but “will be kept there to reduce Gabriela Firea’s chances”, because Ciolacu is afraid of Firea and of winning a general mayor mandate, because then PSD will take over.

“It’s predictable. There are no figures to throw us into expectation – “oh what’s up with this survey”. The problem is where does Firea stop, does it stop before Nicusor’s maximum or does it stop beyond. To be honest, I don’t think he has a chance, there are seven percent to recover. Seven percent to recover is a lot. However, it is a matter that may arise and I will tell you why it will not arise. Piedone’s total withdrawal. If he stays in the Capital, he definitely loses. And that’s not how he beat Nicuşor, but, please, that’s easy to say after the war. I should have said it before. The big problem is Piedone’s withdrawal, which violates Mrs. Firea’s voter list, and it could then be a close fight between Nicusor Dan and Gabriela Firea. I don’t think that Piedone will retire. He will be kept there to reduce Gabriela Firea’s chances. Ciolacu is afraid that Firea, victorious in the Capital, could take the head of the party from him. And it would be good to take him for how he behaved with her, to send him to Buzău to study there if he is in Moldova or in the Kingdom”, said Traian Băsescu, on Sunday at Digi 24, according to news.ro.

Băsescu changed his opinion about Ciolacu

The former president of Romania added that he thought Marcel Ciolacu was a good man, but after the image he made with Cătălin Cîrstoiu and his candidacy for the Capital City Hall, he realized that the PSD leader “is a Maltese who it spins, it confuses them, or in Bucharest it does not go to either the PSD or the PNL”.

“I thought that Marcel Ciolacu was a good man, but when I saw what he did for the locals, I realized that he is a fraud. (…) Ciolacu is a Maltese who turns them around, confuses them, or in Bucharest he does not go to either the PSD or the PNL. Or in Bucharest it’s not always done like that, it’s done differently, especially since there are sectors that live day by day in partnership and PSD and PNL have partnerships in sectors. You can’t come and plant a candidate overnight. So I think that Ciolacu was wrong”, Băsescu said.

The former head of state also stated that Gabriela Firea, even victorious in the Capital, could run for the presidential elections.

“It won’t be good for Ciolacu either if Firea wins the Capital, or if it loses by a small score, of two or three percent, because then the organization from Bucharest will jump on his head because he didn’t launch it in the race earlier”. Basescu declared.

Nicusor Dan has the first chance

He predicted that in the current formula of the candidates for PMB, Nicusor Dan has a high chance of winning, and the United Right Alliance has a very high chance of getting close to the PSD, in terms of score.

“As a conclusion, in the current configuration, Nicusor Dan has a high chance of winning and there are very high chances that the United Right Alliance will get closer to the PSD. The United Right Alliance is a growing alliance, it did not decline after the games were rearranged. I want the Alliance of the United Right to withdraw”, Traian Băsescu also stated.

The current mayor of the Capital, Nicuşor Dan, is in first place in the voting intentions of Bucharest residents for the post of general mayor, with 31% of the options, followed by Gabriela Firea with 24% and Cristian Popescu Piedone – 20%, according to an Avangarde survey, which also indicates that 42% of Bucharest residents are satisfied with the way things look in the city. Regarding the vote for the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest (CGMB), the scores are: PSD – 31%, United Right Alliance – 25%, PNL – 20%. In the European parliamentary elections, the PSD-PNL Alliance would obtain 50% in Bucharest, followed by the United Right Alliance, with 26%, and the AUR, with 11%. More than half of those surveyed believe that the decision of the PSD-PNL alliance to change the common candidate, Cătălin Cîrstoiu, was a good decision.
