The German police arrested, on Saturday evening, a Russian citizen suspected of killing two Ukrainian citizens in a small town in the south of Germany, reports dpa, quoted by Agerpres.

Two Ukrainian men were fatally stabbed on Saturday evening at a mall in the city of Murnau, located in the state of Bavaria (southeast Germany).

Shortly after, the police arrested a 57-year-old man with Russian citizenship, whom they consider the main suspect. Police said the motive for the crime is still unclear.

“We are at the beginning of the investigation at this time,” said police spokesman Daniel Katz.

The double murder occurred around 17:15 local time (15:15 GMT) in front of a grocery store in Murnau. Initially, the author managed to escape, but he was caught shortly after at his home, located not far from the scene of the crime.

According to the local police, the victims are two Ukrainian men, aged 23 and 36, who lived in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The suspect is to be brought before a judge on Sunday, the prosecutors requesting his placement in preventive detention.
