School bus involved in a serious accident: It is the second devastating bus accident in days on a German road: on the night of Wednesday, March 27, a Flixbus went off the road on the A9 near Leipzig. Four people died and several were injured, some seriously. Now another accident happened early Friday morning in North Rhine-Westphalia on the A44. Dozens of students are injured. School bus involved in a serious accident: more than 20 injured
The accident happened in the night from Thursday to Friday on the A44 motorway towards Kassel, near Werl. According to a police spokesman, approx 60 people were traveling in the double-decker bus which went off the road and it rolled on one side. Most of them are students of the Warburg Vocational School. The young people were returning from a trip to England. After the accident, 22 people were injured, one of which is serious. It is not yet clear if the injured include people accompanying the group. The bus driver escaped unhurt from the accident. (Continue below)
After the accident, the road in the direction of Kassel is still completely closed. The bus was already upright, a police spokesman said Friday morning. However, it is still unclear how long it will take for the road to be unblocked. In recent years, there have been repeated serious accidents involving buses in Germany. Another serious bus accident in just two days
Just two days earlier, another tour bus crashed on a German highway. Four people died in the Flixbus accident on the A9 near Leipzig. As with the new accident in NRW, none of these incidents involved other vehicles. Investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of both accidents.
