The Congress on Sunday fielded two candidates from two Lok Sabha seats and eight assembly constituencies in Odisha for the upcoming elections next month. For the Lok Sabha elections, the party has fielded Nagendra Pradhan from Sambalpur, a seat which he earlier represented on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket in 2014.

While Nagendra Pradhan replaced Dullal Chandra Pradhan as the MP candidate, he will be up against another Pradhan – BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Nagendra Pradhan was fielded as the Congress candidate from Sambalpur, three days after he joined the grand old party.

The high-profile seat is gearing up for a heated contest between Nagendra Pradhan, Dharmendra Pradhan and BJD’s Pranab Prakash Das. Polling in this constituency will be held in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in Odisha on May 25.

Results are expected to be declared on June 4.

In 2019, Nitesh Ganga Deb of BJP won the Sambalpur seat, securing 4,73,770 votes. BJD candidate Nalini Kanta got 4,64,608 votes while Congress’s Sarat Patnaik finished a distant third with 1,35,969 votes.

Odisha will simultaneously vote in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections next month.
