The former mayor of sector 5, Marian Vanghelie, announced that he will run for a new mandate and says that his former friend Cristian Popescu Piedone has no chance of winning. “And in sector 5, if he were to run, he would lose!” said Vanghelie, at Realitatea Plus. The former mayor also made a series of frothy revelations from their common past, from the communist period, when Piedone was a cook and Vanghelie a commoner.

Invited to Realitatea Plus, Vanghelie stated that his former friend would have no chance of winning the fight for any mayor’s office.

“Piedone and in sector 5 if he runs, he will lose. We’re not talking about polls, we all do polls, we’re poll cheats. (…) You will see that I will be in first place. (…) Piedone loses everywhere, go home! (…) I win in front of everyone, because nothing has been done in sector 5 for 10 years. (…) I am running because a lot of people came to tell me (to do this)”, said Vanghelie.

The former mayor also made a series of sparkling, lesser-known revelations from his years of friendship with Piedone.

“I’ve known him since 1980 or so, he worked as a chef at the “Golden Apple”. I, at that time, I’m not ashamed (to say – NR) was on the boulevard, I was having a good time. I was selling tickets (to the movie – NR), I was selling currency, I wasn’t stealing! I was making 1,000-2,000 lei a day. AND we used to go, more of us, who made money and bought meat for 100 lei (kilogram – NR), because that’s how it was bought, from the restaurant, from Mr. Piedone”, Vanghelie told exclusively to Realitatea Plus.

I BRINGED HIM TO PSD, HE WENT TO PNȚCD, CAME BACK, HE WAS PUT AGAINST ME

In the 90s, after being successful in business, Vanghelie entered politics, and his path crossed again with that of Piedone.

“I’m bringing Piedone with me to the PSD, I came through the merger, with Miron Mitrea’s party, I put him as a councilor on the lists in sector 5, he doesn’t come out. He comes to me to pray, that what he is doing, I talk to the director of Rocar to put him in there (…) he does what he does and puts him in. After a while, (Piedone) leaves PSD for PNT CD. The manager from Rocar comes to me “Mariane, isn’t this that boy?”, what can I say. After about a year and a half he comes to me again, “your brother Piedone, you know…” and I bring him back to sector 5.

When the elections came, Dan Ioan Popescu (extremely influential politician in the PSD in the early 2000s) began to probe, to find all kinds of counter-candidates, so as not to put me. And he tested it on Piedone, this one… this one. (…) Life wanted it this way, it’s true that Adrian Năstase, Ion Iliescu and Miron Mitrea also helped me and I was the PSD candidate for Sector 5, against the will of DI Popescu, the president of the Bucharest organization. (Piedone) came to me again, he was crying: “Are you also making me deputy mayor?” I told him honestly, that I also know his family, I know him too, I could tell him that I’m putting him in and then throw him out, but I was honest and told him “Go back to 6!” And he went, damned that one, to the little ones with vegetables, after which he went to sector 4. He kicked them in the vegetables and became mayor. (…) He left at 4, because if he still ran, no one would choose him and he came at 5, I was in custody. Now he went to the Capital, because he knows he will lose (if he were to run for S5 – NR),” Marian Vanghelie told exclusively on Realitatea Plus.
