Disaster in the United States after the Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, with a length of 2.57 km, collapsed. The bridge broke after a cargo boat crashed violently into it. Firefighters intervene on the scene. Seven people and several vehicles fell into the river that this bridge crossed.

Rescue teams are facing difficult weather conditions, characterized by near-freezing temperatures and limited visibility, adding an “extra worry”. They are looking for at least 20 people who fell into the water after the bridge collapsed. Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the city’s fire department, said they are working with the Coast Guard and a dive team. The temperature around the port is minus one degree Celsius.

According to the first information, a vessel hit one of the piers of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which is more than 350 meters high, causing it to collapse. The accident was confirmed by Baltimore Coast Guard Petty Officer Matthew West to the New York Times. He did not specify the type of ship or when it hit the bridge. The extent of the damage is not yet clear. The images of the collapsed bridge are spectacular. In several videos posted on social networks, it can be seen that a considerable part of the impressive metal structure, inaugurated in 1977, collapsed into the Patapsco River.
