Sonos has been talking for some time already about the debut of its brand in a new market segment, and now we can confirm that it is a new pair of over-ear headphones. The Sonos Ace seems to be the name of the new headphones, and the first images confirm that they will be premium headphones that will compete head-to-head with well-established models from the likes of Sony, Bose and Apple. Compared to other products from Sonos, these headphones seem like they will also come at a competitive price, easier to “digest” for those already in the Sonos ecosystem.

The Sonos Ace headphones could go head-to-head with Sony, Bose and Apple

The release is expected sometime in June, but we already have the first two images that reveal both the design of the new headphones and the accessories that will be included in the package. From a design point of view, the Sonos Ace does not deviate from the brand patterns. We are dealing with simple lines, curved surfaces and a matte plastic texture on the outside. It looks like the entire headrest and cups will be covered in memory foam and possibly vegan leather in the head contact area.

These headphones will be available in stores somewhere around the price of 450 dollars or 400 euros, about the same price that Sony, Bose and Apple ask for their competing models, such as the WH-1000XM5, QuietConfort 45 or AirPods Max.

It looks like there will be some physical buttons on the outside, probably for on/off, pairing with Bluetooth devices, and turning ANC functions on or off. In the package it seems that the headphones will be delivered, along with a USB-C charging cable, a 3.5mm jack to USB-C cable, which suggests that they will not have a dedicated jack, but will be able to be connected to devices with this plug as well as a hard carrying case for headphones and accessories. A small black box also appears in the image, but it is not clear what its purpose would be.

What is certain is that these headphones will be able to be integrated into a Sonos ecosystem, just like the Roam speaker. You’ll be able to stream music over Wi-Fi directly to the headphones, according to rumors, but you’ll also be able to connect to other Sonos devices around the house to move playback to the headphones. For example, if you want to watch TV but don’t want to disturb other family members, you can connect your headphones to your Sonos soundbar to play the sound from the TV.

Aside from the headphones, the only accessory that could be purchased separately appears to be the cup sponges, which are already listed in some specialty store databases. This is a good thing, as the cups are the first to be damaged. At €35 for a pair of premium sponges, the price isn’t bad either.

But we’re waiting for the official announcement of the Sonos Ace, so we can confirm or deny this “sourced” information about the headphones.
