Huawei continues its semiconductor innovations, working on a new 5nm chip, which is speculated to be Kirin 9010. This development follows the success of the Kirin 9000 series, marking an important step in the evolution of 5nm processing technology.

Technical details leaked on Baidu’s Qualcomm Tieba account reveal the specifications of a chip Kirin 5nmsupposed to be the successor of the Kirin 9000. The new chipset shows an octa-core CPU structure, having two performance cores Taishan V130 at 3.00GHz and six efficiency cores Taishan V130 Litewith a maximum frequency of 1.8GHz.

In terms of architecture, performance cores Taishan V130 include a 6/7 wide decode ALU, 128KB instruction L1 cache, 64KB data L1 cache, and 1MB L2 cache. Efficiency kernels Taishan V130 Lite feature a 3/4 wide decode ALU, 64KB L1 cache for instructions, 32KB L1 cache for data, and 256KB L2 cache. In addition to these, the processor includes an additional 8MB of L3 cache and a Maleoon 920 GPU with 6 compute units and a clock speed of 750MHz. Moreover, it features a new generation Ascend dual-core NPU (a large and a small core) and a Kirin ISP 8.0.

Connected to the modem, the new Kirin processor integrates Balloon 6000 and supports LPDDR5 6400 memory, based on the 5nm SMIC manufacturing process. Power consumption is 5.2 watts for single-core loads and 12.4 watts for multi-core loads.

On Geekbench 6.0, the alleged Kirin 9010 chipset scored 1800 points for the single-core test and 4800 points for the multi-core testcomparable to the performance of Apple A12X Bionic, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and MediaTek Dimensity 9200+.

In graphics tests, the Maleoon GPU scored 2800 points in 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme, 54 FPS in GFXBench Aztec Ruins High Tier Offscreen, and 188 FPS in GFXBench Manhattan OpenGL ES 3.1. Speculation suggests that the new 5nm Kirin chip could debut with the P70 series in the near futurealthough Huawei has yet to confirm this information.
