No less than five Romanian crews are fighting for medals in the European Rowing Championships in Szeged.

Mădălina Bereș, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereș won the silver medal in the four-frame event, they were beaten by the crew of Great Britain.

Mariana Dumitru, Emanuela Ciotau, Alexandra Ungureanu and Mădălina Moroșan finished in sixth place in the four oars event.

Mihai Chiruță finished in 4th place in the singles event. He missed the A final and will play in the B final.

Andrei Cornea and Florin Enache qualified for Sunday’s final, after an exemplary race in the double oars event, which they even won with an advance of one and a half boats.

Florin Arteni and Florin Lehaci finished in 2nd place in the doubles event in the semi-finals and qualified for the final.

The “tricolors” compete, in the first part of the day, in the men’s double sculls, double rowing and singles events, and in the second part of the day in the men’s events of four female frames (Mădălina Bereș, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu, Amalia Bereș), four women’s rowers (Mariana Dumitru, Emanuela Ciotau, Alexandra Ungureanu, Mădălina Moroșan) and four men’s (Cristian Nicoară, Bogdan Baitoc, Cristian Horodișteanu, Ioan Prundeanu).

Then, in the penultimate final, the double world champions Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc will compete. They reunited this year and prevailed in their contest series.

“We form a mature team and it will be the first time we compete again, after the Olympic Games in Tokyo. We do not underestimate any opponent, but we are determined to get a good result at the European Championships”, Gianina van Groningen testified before the trip to Szeged.

Towards the end of the day, the men’s 8 plus 1 event will take place. Incidentally, in the previous edition, in Bled, the “tricolor” boat was in second place.

This year, Romania will be represented in Sezeged by athletes Mihăiță Țigănescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Florin Arteni, Mugurel Semciuc, Constantin Adam, Sergiu Bejan, Ștefan, Berariu. Florin Lehaci and Adrian Munteanu.

In the European Championships in 2023 from Bled, our country’s delegation won six medals, one silver and five gold.
