The defeat in the Romanian Cup with Corvinul, score 0-4, was the last match for Adrian Mutu at CFR Cluj. The coach could not bear the humiliation and informed the boss Varga that he was resigning, reports actualdecluj.ro
The cup was one of the main objectives of the CFR and would have ensured the presence of the former champions in the Europa League preliminaries. Cluj are not doing well in the championship either. They are in 3rd place in the play-off, with 28 points, tied with Rapid and 10 lengths behind FCSB, the first position holder.
The main favorite to take over the technical bench is the Italian Andrea Mandorlini, who Mutu replaced at CFR.
Since promotion in 2004, CFR Cluj has never lost against a second league team in an official match.
The last 4-0 defeat dates back to the 2014-2015 season, when CFR lost at Pandurii Târgu Jiu 4-0, with a team in which Nistor or Pintilii played and with Edi Iordănescu as head coach.
CFR has two more defeats with 4-0, against FC Vaslui and FC Botoşani, from the period when the team was insolvent. The only defeat with a higher score is from April 2012, when CFR lost at home to Rapid, score 0-5. In June, CFR became champion, with 71 points, over Vaslui, with 70 points.
