Take-Two Interactive has made the decision to shut down studios Roll7 (behind Rollerdrome) and Intercept Games (Kerbal Space Program 2), according to Bloomberg. Roll7 is a British studio, founded in 2008 by two friends, Tom Hegarty and Simon Bennett. Over time, this studio has created the BAFTA and DICE award-winning games OlliOlli, OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome, highly acclaimed by critics and gamers alike. Take-Two bought the studio in November 2021 and turned it into a subsidiary of Private Division, which deals with the giant’s small and medium games. Unfortunately, Take-Two’s plans now include shutting down Roll7 entirely.

Intercept Games is located in Seattle and is the studio responsible for Kerbal Space Program 2, a space flight simulator that is still theoretically in early access on Steam. Take-Two founded Intercept in 2020 specifically to make this game, which has received constant updates since its release in February 2023. Take-Two has not yet confirmed the closure of this studio, but sent an announcement in Washington in during the day on Monday, in which it says it will fire 70 people and permanently close the place where they operate. Additionally, some Kerbal developers have already confirmed their departure, but Private Division says it will continue to provide updates to the game.

Take-Two is one of the largest video game companies in the world, with revenues of $5.3 billion last year. It is the owner of the GTA series, the parent company of Rockstar Games, 2K, Private Division, Zynga and recently, Gearbox Software, bought in March for $460 million.

Layoffs in the world of video games continued in 2024, after a rather dark 2023, with 10,500 employees being let go globally. We are already approaching this figure this year, with current estimates of 9,400 people laid off.
