The management of Fenerbahce has made the decision regarding the withdrawal from the Turkish championship
Fenerbahce decided on Tuesday not to follow through on a threat to withdraw from the Turkish Super League, the club’s president told thousands of members of congress gathered at their stadium in Istanbul.
“In all our meetings, the least preferred option was to withdraw from the Championship. The reason why this opinion is not wanted is because people think that in the lower league we would face the same things that we face here,” he said. the president of the club, Ali Koc, at the congress.
“We are taking this option out of the discussion until the general meeting at the end of the season”Koc added.
In March, Fenerbahce said it was considering pulling out of the league after its players were attacked by Trabzonspor fans during a match.
Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch and clashed with security forces and Fenerbahce players after their side lost 3-2, the latest in a series of incidents that have hit the Turkish league this season season.
Fenerbahce, who won their 19th league title in 2014, are second in the table after 30 games – two points behind Galatasaray. They are set to host Adana Demirspor on Wednesday.
