“I don’t feel guilty about anything. I chose my fate with my own hand”. The former handball player is divorcing after 53 years of marriage

Cristian Gațu, 78 years old, double world handball champion with the Romanian national team, is divorcing after 53 years. He is accused by his wife, Tamara Gațu (80 years old), of cheating on her with the housekeeper, a 53-year-old woman.

It seems that Gațu’s only regret is that the divorce came to public attention, stressing that he does not feel at all guilty for what happened.

“(no- if he expected his divorce to reach the public’s attention) No, no, no! It’s a disappointment, but I can’t help it, I have to bear it. I don’t feel guilty about anything. Unfortunately, we are and live in Romania, we have nothing to do.

Tamara Gațu, the wife of the former President of the Romanian Handball Federation, is asking for compensation of 500,000 lei (100,000 euros) and a monthly maintenance pension of 5,000 lei.

“In recent years, we tried to reconsider family life, but this was no longer possible”was the first statement of Cristian Gațu, after it was found out that he was divorcing.

The former handball player is asking for a divorce and “the return of the defendant to the previously used name”. Tamara Gațu wants to keep her married name.

Tamara moved to Beiuș, and Cristian stayed in Bucharest, after they sold the house they had in Corbeanca.

The former Mrs. Gațu claims that the former handball player moved in with a 53-year-old woman, who was cited in the divorce process. She allegedly swore with her hand on the Bible that she was only Cristian Gațu’s housekeeper, while Tamara’s lawyer came with photos in which the former handball player and his new girlfriend were holding hands on the street.

In the sharing process, Cristian claims that he has nothing to share with Tamara, while she requests half of the value of the Bucharest apartment of the former handball player. The champion said that the money obtained after the sale of the house in Corbeanca was divided, and Tamara received one of the couple’s two cars.
