PSD offer for Pedestrians

Marcel Ciolacu insisted in the last two days with messages in which he asks Cristian Popescu Piedone to come to the negotiation table, in order to agree to the withdrawal of the current mayor from sector 5 from the race for the Capital. The first signal was the transmission in the public space, through PSD’s party communicators, that the formation is ready to no longer put up a candidate for the Sector 5 City Hall, where the social democrats would support Piedone or his son, deputy Vlad Popescu.

Moreover, the social democrats convey that in the future management structure of the Municipality of Bucharest, PUSL could receive important positions in the management of institutions and companies located within the city’s borders (STB, Termoenergetica, Energetica SA, Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services Bucharest).

Eligible seats for Parliament

Behind closed doors, long-winded requests emerged. Political sources stated for Libertatea that the social democrats were told by the PUSL that one of the requirements of the party founded by the businessman Dan Voiculescu is the guarantee of 20 eligible seats for the winter parliamentary elections. “The goal is for PUSL to be able to form parliamentary groups,” Libertatea sources claim.

Moreover, it would not be the first time that a small party of Dan Voiculescu, whether it was called PUR, PC or PUSL, would manage to receive many eligible seats on the PSD list. In 2004, when the Conservative Party joined the Social Democrats, Voiculescu’s formation had 19 elected deputies and 10 senators in the legislature. After the elections, the party joined its former opponents, namely the PNL and the PDL.

In the next mandate, PSD received only five eligible seats, but in 2012, when PC was part of the Center Right Alliance, the formation patronized by Dan Voiculescu had 15 deputies and 10 senators.

With an eye on traditional voters

On the negotiation table could be even positions that belong to the prime minister’s pen, so appointments at the level of dignitaries (secretaries and undersecretaries of state), for people from the PUSL. In recent years, the governments of Ciucă and Ciolacu have recovered people from the PUSL entourage in public positions, so it would not be a first.

PSD’s objective is not to lose votes from the traditional pool, which would mean that Firea has a chance in the race for the Capital, given that the social democrats have the most disciplined voters.

On the other hand, Cristian Popescu Piedone has conveyed countless times that he is not withdrawing from the competition, but the same politician said a few months ago that he would not run, then that he would not enter the race, if the PSD goes with Gabriela’s option Nature.

So some assumptions were disproved by subsequent actions. Now it’s PSD’s turn to hope that Piedone could say that he no longer wants to run and support Firea, but the chances are 50%-50% for such a decision.

Skepticism in the liberal camp regarding Piedone’s withdrawal

While the social democrats are doing everything they can to convince Piedone to step down, the liberals seem determined to see their election campaign through, especially since the PNL is currently lacking in communication channels with Popescu’s party Pedestrians. On Friday, April 26, the PNL list for the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest will be voted on, and on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., it would be submitted, when Sebastian Burduja’s candidacy will also be submitted.

The Liberals are trying to get a score as close as possible to 20% on the political vote for the Council (which would mean 11 of the 55 general councilors). But their realistic calculation is that they would have about 8 mandates in the currently eligible area.

Ciolacu, a last message for Piedones and PUSL

Marcel Ciolacu declared on Thursday that he has ended any dialogue and any offer for Cristian Popescu Piedone, reports news.ro.

“We have ended any dialogue and any offer for Cristian Popescu Piedone. I said that we have to think about what we have to build for Bucharest, not to try to get stuck in our personal dreams. Everything I wanted to convey to Mr. Cristian Popescu Piedone I conveyed to him until today. I didn’t see myself, I sent them through you. It made my pleasure much greater,” he added.
