While the authorities do not agree on which chicken is dyed or not, the specialists show us how we can test ourselves if a chicken is raised naturally.

“In the area where it was washed, yesterday’s chicken was still discolored, even though experts say that normally, if it had been fed naturally, the yellow shade would have migrated back. One thing we can do you can tell if the chicken was naturally fed or not by looking at the color of the meat, something quite difficult to do in the supermarket, but if it was fed only grain, the meat should have a yellow tint”transmits Andreea Milea, Observer reporter.

Adrian Cîrîc, ICA president: If we are talking about a coloring simply on the surface, this is completely different and is not accepted from the point of view of safety and legislation. If the musculature and fat do not also show a degree of coloring, then it means that there are some risks and then the authorities should be notified.

Local: I also bought a chicken because I said it was from the yard, that it was I don’t know what, and when I got home I felt the same way that you have to wash it, you have to prepare it, and it was gone.

Reporter: Was it sold as natural, organic chicken?

Local: Yes yes, like a backyard chicken.

Painted chicken cannot be withdrawn from the shelf

The ANPC director says that chickens fed with certain accepted dyes cannot be withdrawn from the shelf. It’s just that the producers have to relabel the products so that the consumers are no longer deceived.

Horia Constantinescu, ANPC director: It’s from the night of the mind. Color the chicken and the egg yolk. We as the authority will force them to say that they were artificially painted. It is better to get an unpainted chicken because it is a good value for money, instead of buying a yellow chicken.

When asked by the Observer, the president of ANPC said that he discovered only one company walking around with painted chicken, out of the eight found with chicken with salmonella. Until those responsible are clarified, people do not know what to buy.

Local: Let’s figure it out just by looking, we have no way. This must be written on the label, it must be clearly known and whoever assumes the label also assumes the product and is responsible for what is sold.

Local: It seems very toxic to me if it is true and if we consume these foods we should not be surprised that digestive problems occur.

The Minister of Agriculture does not believe that farmers could give the birds feed mixed with certain dyes or, worse, paint their skin.

Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture: I don’t think that Romanian farmers paint chickens. To be very clear. I can’t give my opinion. I am sure that the ANSVS will make a report and they will certainly clarify this.

The former minister says that such accusations could destabilize the market.

Petre Daea, former Minister of Agriculture: It is very dangerous and unproductive to generalize because we can affect a sector that has become successful over a period of time.

Started two weeks ago, ANPC checks continue throughout the country.
