UVT Faculty of Law team, awarded at the Central and Eastern European Moot Competition (P) | TIMPOLIS

The team of the Faculty of Law of the Western University of Timişoara obtained the award for the best written pleadings and an individual pleading award at the Central and Eastern European Moot contest, a competition held in the Czech Republic, in Prague, from April 26 to 28.

In the final stage of the competition, 16 teams qualified, including the one from the Faculty of Law of the Western University of Timișoara. Access to this stage was based on the written memos prepared by the participants.

The competition consisted of a simulation of the proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union, in which the participating teams presented the arguments of the parties in a case concerning the preliminary reference procedure, respect for the rule of law and the independence of national courts, as well as intellectual property rights on some artistic creations.

The team of the Faculty of Law of UVT, consisting of Horea Ardelean, Melisa Cheșpi, Carla Pervu-Milostean (3rd year students) and Maria Curbet (4th year student), qualified for the semifinal round of the competition and won the Best Written Memorials Award, continuing the series of performances of the teams that represented the faculty in previous editions. At the same time, Carla Pervu-Milostean obtained an individual pleading award.

The preparation of the Timișoara Faculty of Law team was coordinated by prof. Dr. Raluca Bercea, lect. university Dr. Sorina Doroga and assist. Dr. Bianca Serbformer participant and winner of an individual advocacy award in this competition.

The Central and Eastern European Moot Competition, a prestigious student scientific competition on European Union law, now in its 29th edition, is organized by Juris Angliae Scientia – British Law Centre, in cooperation with the Court of Justice of the European Union, with the support of other institutions of the European Union, the Center for European Legal Studies at Cambridge University and Clifford Chance.
