Fire at the landfill near Galati. A RO-ALERT message was issued for the residents of the area

A RO-ALERT message was sent to the residents of Galati and neighboring communes, after the garbage dump in the area caught fire.

The fire, spread over several hundred square meters, is located near a national road.

Dana Costache, Digi24 journalist: It’s still burning at the landfill. A RO-ALERT message was issued to the residents of several neighborhoods in the city of Galati, but also to the localities located near the landfill. People were told there was heavy smoke and were advised to close their windows. Motorists were asked to avoid the area and leave access roads clear for emergency forces.

The landfill where it is burning is located near DN 25 Galati – Tecuci. Large fire brigades intervene on the scene with 3 fire engines and a tanker. The warehouse covers an area of ​​approximately 1 hectare and the flames contained waste on an area of ​​400 square meters.

Firefighters have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but it may be an unattended fire or self-ignition of waste due to heat. It’s a long intervention, ISU representatives say, because the wind is blowing and the flames are spreading quickly.
