Romania became, from the beginning of this month, a net exporter of gas, after the daily volume of imports via Bulgaria decreased, and that of exports to Hungary increased, Profit.ro analysis reveals.

Thus, if at the end of April, Romania imported approximately 75 GWh/day from Bulgaria and exported approximately 65 GWh/day to Hungary, from May 1, the level of imports from the southern state was reduced to 55 GWh/day, and that of exports to the Hungarian state increased to 73 GWh/day.

In the first days of May, Romania exported approximately 9.5 GWh/day to the Republic of Moldova, through the Ungheni interconnection point.
On Tuesday, Romania imported about 50 GWh via Bulgaria and exported about 72 GWh to Hungary. Exports to the Republic of Moldova were zero.

Tuesday’s production was approximately 255 GWh, with 9.3 GWh being stored in warehouses.
Currently, there is a gas surplus on the domestic market, especially as a result of the high degree of storage filling, of almost 60% of the total capacity, although the winter season just ended a month ago.

According to the data of the main oil and gas company in Romania, in the first quarter of this year gas demand increased by 6% compared to the same period last year.

The increase in gas demand, of 6%, from the first 3 months of the year, is followed by a 7% reduction in 2023 and a 16% reduction in 2022.
