Alin Demetrian was accused in 2023 of the death of four patients. The well-known surgeon from Craiova was then detained for 24 hours, and later placed under judicial control. In January this year, Demetrian was sent to court.
In March, the surgeon Alin Demetrian tried in court to obtain the revocation of the judicial control, but the magistrates of the Dolj Court rejected his appeal and upheld the decision that he could no longer carry out his work as a surgeon even in public health facilities , and neither private.
In the same decision, it is stated that Alin Demetrian is not allowed to intervene surgically, nor to interpret the results of radiological or imaging examinations in the case of mediastinal tumors.
The Craiova Court rejected the request of the police
Not even two weeks after the final decision given by the Dolj Court, at the beginning of April, the Dolj police officers reported themselves after a patient from Caracal arrived at the emergency department of the County Hospital in Craiova, in serious condition.
The woman would have undergone a bronchoscopy in a private clinic, and the doctor who would have performed the intervention was Alin Demetrian himself, the surgeon from Craiova tried for manslaughter for similar cases.
The case came before the magistrates of the Craiova Court, they being the ones who analyzed the request of the policemen from the Surveillance Center within IPJ Dolj to replace the judicial control with another, more drastic preventive measure.
The Craiova District Court rejected the request of the police, considering that the doctor Alin Demetrian would not have violated the provisions of the judicial control, which forbade him to operate only in cases that were directly related to the four patients who died.

The woman from Caracal who was operated on a month ago died on May 7, 2024 at the Emergency Hospital in Craiova.
“Considering the evidence administered so far, in conjunction with the preliminary medico-legal conclusions, as well as the suspicion of a case of medical malpractice, the investigations will be continued under the aspect of committing the crime of manslaughter, and upon their completion, a thorough solution will be proposed and legal, through the competent prosecution unit”, the IPJ Dolj representatives sent.
