A new outbreak of swine fever in Olt county. Affected is a farm in Negreni, Scornicesti city, where approximately 11,000 animals are to be slaughtered.

The suspicion appeared in the commercial farm in Negreni-Scornicești a few days ago, and on April 25 it was confirmed by the Bucharest Animal Health and Diagnostic Institute.

Therefore, the area was quarantined, and the 11,425 pigs will be slaughtered to avoid the spread of the plague, according to DSVSA Olt

Localities and hunting funds, under restrictions

Following the confirmation of the African swine fever outbreak, several localities, but also some hunting funds, were included in the protection zone: Scornicești-Negreni, Chițesca, Piscani, Mărgineni-Slobozia, FV 11 Potcoava, FB 8 Scornicești.

According to the quoted source, in the surveillance area (within a radius of 10 km) there are the following localities: Scornicești-Șuica, Mogoșești, Rusciori, Constantinești, Teiuș, Bircii, Bălțăti, Jitaru, Mărgineni-Slobozia, Mihăilești Popești, Potcoava-Fălcoeni, Trufinești, Optași-magura, Sîrbii Măgura – Vitănesti, Colonești-Guesti, Mărunței, Bătăreni, Navîrgeni Tătulesti, FV 10 Optași, FV 7 Priseaca, FV 12 Bălteni and FV 9 Tătulesti. The surveillance area also includes two commercial pig holdings from Constantinesti.

DSVSA Olt requests the support and understanding of territorial administrative units, citizens and economic operators for compliance with these measures, considering the seriousness of the disease and the serious economic consequences generated by its occurrence.

To prevent the spread of the disease, all suspect animals must be slaughtered and neutered, and the owners will be compensated by the state, under the conditions provided by law.

We make it clear that African swine fever does not affect humans, there is not even the slightest risk of illness for humans, but this virus has an impact on a social level from an economic point of view.

DSVSA Olt will periodically inform the public in the county, regarding the evolution of the disease, respectively the measures that are required to combat it.”, the representatives of DSVSA Olt send

The authorities say that it is prohibited to “trade, transfer or move in any form live pigs, meat and pork products from restricted areas.”

Also, the restrictions regarding the organization of live animal agglomerations for the purpose of their commercialization (ban on the operation of live animal fairs) are maintained.
