A well-known doctor from Bucharest is accused of malpractice by a woman who said that she can no longer get pregnant, due to a wrong surgical intervention performed by him.
The woman filed a criminal complaint against the doctor for negligent bodily injury. The 30-year-old spoke about the moment she found out she would never be able to conceive naturally again.
It all started when he felt sick and went to the security room. There she was consulted by a gynecologist, who said that she had an ectopic pregnancy and that she needed an operation. That’s what happened.
“The next day he came to visit me again. He asked me how I was. I told him I was fine. He told me that my right fallopian tube was removed and I have a 50% chance of getting pregnant again,” the woman told Antenna 3 CNN.
However, the young woman continued to hope and shortly after she became pregnant again. That’s how she came to find out that her right fallopian tube had never actually been removed, even though the medical records show this.
The woman can no longer get pregnant after the wrong operation
“A lady resident doctor saw me, she said that I was pregnant and that it was an ectopic pregnancy, also on the right fallopian tube. I said that there is no way because my right fallopian tube was removed,” the woman said.
She arrived at Filantropia Hospital, where she was consulted by another doctor. But she was told the same thing: ectopic pregnancy and the right fallopian tube must be removed.
“He said he was going to operate on me laparoscopically. He operated on me, he removed my right fallopian tube,” she said.
In search of answers, the woman chose to ask for a second opinion. She remained hospitalized there under observation.
“I was told that I don’t even have my left trunk,” the woman said.
This is how a healthy woman ended up never being able to have children again. This was also the moment when he chose to file a criminal complaint.
The College of Doctors declared the gynecologist innocent
“From a legal point of view, I filed a criminal complaint with the College of Doctors. I filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office. The case is ongoing,” says the victim’s lawyer.
Regarding the complaint submitted to the College of Doctors, the woman was heard, but the college came to the conclusion that the doctor did nothing wrong.
“Although at the hospital where the doctor is operating and at the moment an internal disciplinary investigation has been ordered against him, the doctors’ colleagues claim that the doctor intervened as per the book”, says the victim’s lawyer.
Antena 3 CNN reporters tried to get in touch with the accused doctor. He said that he did not want to give a point of view, because he was declared innocent.
In the meantime, the Public Prosecutor’s Office started the criminal investigation for culpable bodily harm.
