A part of 23 August Street in the city of Slănic, Prahova County, collapsed on Thursday morning, and a surveillance camera captured the moment, according to Observator News. On Friday, the land in the area affected by the landslide in Slănic Prahova subsided by another 20 centimeters, informs the Department for Emergency Situations, quoted by Agepres.
On the images captured by a surveillance camera, you can see how two cars take to the pavement to avoid cracks in the asphalt. Later, a police car also appears, and the law enforcement forces begin to isolate the area before the appearance of the crater.
The Prahoven authorities decided on Thursday evening to evacuate several buildings and to prohibit pedestrian traffic on the street that collapsed.
The ground settled another 20 centimeters
The Department for Emergency Situations announces on Friday, April 26, that the land in the landslide-affected area of Slănic Prahova has subsided by another 20 centimeters, following the measurements carried out on Friday morning by the specialized personnel contracted by the Slănic City Hall.
“We mention that up to this moment, 42 people have been evacuated from the buildings in the vicinity, and thanks to the care of the local public administration, two families have been sheltered at the economic operators within the radius of the locality”, says the quoted source.
The situation is continuously monitored, and specialized personnel contracted by Slănic City Hall carry out measurements in order to transmit them to the technical expert in the field of Af (Mechanical Resistance and Stability of the Foundation Ground of Constructions and Earth Massifs).
At the same time, the operative teams of the IGSU, the Romanian Police and the Romanian Gendarmerie are present on the spot to ensure the measures within their area of competence and will remain in the device as long as the situation requires it.
The injured area covers an area of over 60 square meters, and the depth of the crater is about two meters.
What the authorities sent about the incident in Prahova County
In the meeting of the County Committee for Emergency Situations, convened as a result of the event that took place in the town of Slănic, Prahova county and after the preliminary assessment carried out by the experts co-opted in the management of this emergency situation, the following preventive measures were adopted:
– Extending the safety perimeter, by evacuating a block of stairs of a nearby building, the police station and an economic operator;
– The complete prohibition of traffic, both road and pedestrian, in the area of the safety perimeter;
– Carrying out daily specialist measurements to determine if the ground continues to move;
– Initiating the steps necessary to carry out the specialized expertise aimed at establishing the exact cause that led to the subsidence of the land;
– Permanent monitoring of the situation.
At the level of the local public authority, spaces have been identified for the accommodation of people from the evacuated buildings, so that in the event that they request support, they will be directed to these locations. Also, the event is closely monitored at the central level, and operative crews of the IGSU, the Romanian Police and the Romanian Gendarmerie are present on the spot for the optimal management of the situation.
The Prefecture of Prahova announced on Thursday that in the area where a street collapsed in the city of Slănic, witnesses were set up to check the movement of the land.
“A short time ago, the operational meeting convened as a result of the emergency situation generated by the subsidence of the land and the formation of a crater approximately two meters deep ended. This meeting was attended by: the Operative Group of DSU and IGSU, representatives of the Romanian Police, the Romanian Gendarmerie, the Prefect of Prahova County, the Mayor of Slănic and experts from Salina in Slănic. (…) Up to this moment, 20 people have been evacuated from the two blocks as a precaution, witnesses have been set up to indicate if the land is still moving and a safety perimeter has been created”, informs the quoted source.
According to her, during the meeting, aspects related to the eventual sheltering of the evacuated people from the two nearby blocks, as well as the convening of the County Committee for Emergency Situations, were discussed.
The mayor of Slănic, Costea Daneluş said that he is waiting for the specialists from Bucharest to pronounce on the cause that led to the street being closed.
“I will convene the local committee for emergency situations, I spoke with the owners of the block, amicably, we will try to find them a place, if they have nowhere to stay, with neighbors, with friends. We are waiting for the specialists from Bucharest to tell us what is happening. We are waiting for the specialists who are in geology to give us the verdict”, said Costea Daneluş, who added that it is not known what caused the landslide.
In addition to the tenants, the authorities ordered that the Police headquarters, which is also in the affected area, be evacuated as a precaution.
“Today, around 10:30, the ISU Prahova dispatcher was informed about the fact that in the town of Slănic there was a land subsidence, as a result of which a crater of approximately two meters was formed with the possible damage to several buildings . Colleagues went with an intervention vehicle to check if it is confirmed, the situation is confirmed, and as a result of this event, several provisions were given, among which the operative group of the Department for Emergency Situations and the IGSU was sent to support all on-site activities. At this moment we cannot talk about a very serious situation (…). As a preventive measure, the evacuation of two buildings was ordered. The Police Headquarters was also evacuated as a precaution. It’s about 20 people up to this moment who, willingly, understood the necessity of this evacuation”, stated Captain Toma Bogdan from the Department for Emergency Situations.
