The Minister of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities Natalia Intotero specified, regarding the case of a boy from Gorj county who was allegedly sold for several hundred lei and taken to Germany, after which DIICOT started an investigation, that “next week, the president of the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption will make an emergency trip to Germany, where he will talk with the German authorities with a view to the repatriation, in the shortest possible time, of the minor who is now in their care”.

“I went yesterday (Thursday – no) to make sure that the brothers of the minor who are now in Germany are well taken care of by the Romanian state, through the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection. Together with the director of DGASPC Gorj, I traveled yesterday to meet them. It is about a two-and-a-half-year-old minor and an eight-year-old minor. I talked to the foster carers. I was in the presence of psychologists. I made sure that they benefit and will continue to benefit from support from psychologists and that they are very well cared for. It is a file instrumented by DIICOT. DIICOT was notified by DGASPC, following a request from the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption, coming from the social protection authorities in Germany to provide more data regarding the situation of the minor in question in Romania”, he said Natalia Intotero, in a telephone intervention, on Friday, at Antena 3 CNN.

She added that “there is more speculation about this”, when asked about the fact that there is talk of using a fake power of attorney, maybe the involvement of several state employees and that there are allegations that this child was sold by the father in Germany , if this hypothesis is outlined from the checks made so far.

“There are several speculations in this regard. What I can tell you is that the state authorities, through DGASPC and DIICOT, reacted promptly. I want to thank the people at DIICOT for their involvement, seriousness and professionalism. What else I can tell you is that, next week, the president of the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption (Rareş-Petru Achiriloaie – no) will make an emergency trip to Germany, where he will talk with the German authorities with a view to repatriation, in the shortest possible time, of the minor who is now in their care”, added Intotero.

The Romanian authorities are investigating, after a family from Gorj allegedly sold one of their children, a six-year-old boy, who was taken out of the country and taken to Germany. The amount that the parents – the alcoholic father and the mother with mental problems – would have received for the child is several hundred lei. The General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Gorj took over the other two children of the family, who are now in the care of foster carers.

Local sources told News.ro that the first data from the investigation show that the little boy, who turned six in March of this year, was sold for a sum of several hundred lei.

The child’s father is an alcoholic, and the mother seems to have mental problems, the authorities who went to the family home found.

The older sister of the little boy who was allegedly sold and his younger brother were found there. The girl is eight years old, and the youngest brother is two years and eight months old. Both are now in foster care and following a psychological counseling program. The authorities requested other medical investigations for the two children.
