Former international great Florin Prunea confessed that he is totally outraged by the way the Romanian Football Federation runs League 2 and League 3. He believes that Romanian football has become totally “sick” after the FRF decided to allow the eight teams without the right to promotion to participate in League 2 competition.

In this season, eight teams were allowed to play in League 2, although they did not have the right to promotion in the first league. Moreover, two of the respective teams, Corvinul and Şelimbăr entered the play-off. The formations without the right to promotion that play this season in League 2 are CSA Steaua, Corvinul, Şelimbăr, Reșita Ceahlăul, Tunari, Alexandria and Dumbrăvița.

Behind the scenes, it is circulating that CS Mioveni could also be banned from playing the play-off for access to the first league, even though it is a team in the play-offs.

“Our football is totally sick, and worse than that we have no way to get there. It’s clear that we ended up with this League 2 competition at the laughing stock of the world. Where have you mentioned something like this before? How to allow starting League 2 with eight non-promotion teams? How do you get to a situation where a team from the 7th place in League 2 can theoretically enter the promotion bracket for League 1 if Mioveni does not get the right to play the bracket? I mean, theoretically you like Dinamo and FCU, as the standings are now, which I don’t want under any circumstances, and who could enter from League 2 in the playoffs?

A team that has always been in the fight for salvation from relegation from League 2 or in the middle of the ranking? Or something else. I have nothing against Corvinul, but it would be cool to allow him to play in European cups if he gets the Romanian Cup, but internally we don’t allow him the right to promotion in the first league. Incredible! In my opinion regardless of the names of the teams, the formations that do not have the necessary documents to be allowed the right to promotion have nothing to look for in the competition. You don’t start League 2, but play in League 3 until you solve your problems with documents and the right to promotion. Are you entering League 2 for what? To play for nothing? Where else is the value in League 2? Do we promote with fourth, fifth or seventh places? At least stop letting non-promotion teams play you in the play-offs, because they’re playing for nothing. But, I maintain my opinion and consider that these teams without the right to promotion in League 1 should not play in League 2 at all, regardless of the name and at any risk”, said Florin Prunea for ProSport.

Florin Prunea also referred to the format of the Romanian Cup. “I see that this qualification for Euro 2024 has gone to the heads of the FRF and they are no longer really interested in League 2, League 3, and with the Romanian Cup we are making even more of a laughing stock. They say all kinds of things to me when I go to the territory. People complain.

Well, do those in the FRF agree that our big teams from the first league are no longer interested in the Romanian Cup? And what do we do? We trade and trade with all kinds of nonsense. Is it good that the big teams ended up playing in the Romanian Cup only with the reserves? If the people at FRF like it that way, then there is nothing left to comment on,” concluded Prunea.
