The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) sent on Tuesday, May 7, at the request of the Cuget Liber editor, an official response about the death of two Romanian sailors in the Sultanate of Oman.

“The MFA, through the Romanian Embassy in Muscat, was notified on 22.04.2024, regarding the death of a Romanian citizen, on board a ship docked in the port of Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman. Later, on 24.04.2024, the representatives of the diplomatic mission were informed about the death of another Romanian citizen, on board a ship docked in the port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman.

In this context, the representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Muscat have taken steps with the competent local authorities in order to obtain information regarding the circumstances in which the death of the two Romanian citizens occurred.

The Embassy of Romania in the Sultanate of Oman has maintained and maintains the cases under consideration, continuing the dialogue with the Omani authorities and the families of the deceased, providing specific consular assistance, according to the legal powers, including regarding the procedure required for the repatriation of the dead bodies and the issuance of death certificates, depending on requests”, it is stated in the press release sent to Cuget Liber.

Thus, the MAE specifies that, on May 3 and 7 respectively, the lifeless bodies of the two Romanian sailors were repatriated. The representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Muscat have constantly maintained contact with family members of Romanian citizens, providing support according to their competences.

“Regarding the situation of the sailor on the commercial ship “Galaxy Leader”, we inform you that the Inter-Institutional Crisis Cell is continuing its efforts to release him.

In order to achieve this objective, the MAE informs that the Interinstitutional Crisis Cell deals with the subject with full responsibility, permanently, according to specific competences and tools. In this context, considering the elements held at this moment, the MAE specifies that the Romanian citizen is in a good state of health”, stated the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
